TRivers celebrates LIFE’s 25th Anniversary at the 3rd Science Festival of the UB
Researchers of the TRivers project will be part of the 3rd Science Festival of the University of Barcelona, to be held on Friday May 12. The third Edition of this event will gather different outreach activities for non-specialized audiences of all ages. This year, the participation of TRivers is framed in the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the European program LIFE, the EU’s funding instrument for the environment and climate action and the development of policy and legislation in these areas.
To commemorate this anniversary, a date that also marks a quarter century of the EU Habitats Directive and Natura 2000 network of protected areas, the LIFE community is organising a series of events around Europe during May 2017. You can search for these activities on this website.
Activities with the mobile app Riu.Net
Attendants to Friday’s festival will have the opportunity to discover the new features of the Riu.Net app, a citizen science project developed by the Freshwater Ecology and Management (FEM) research group of the UB, which evaluates the ecological quality of rivers in a simple and funny way. Through a simulation and with the help of different panels and other images, participants will be able to identify the hydrological regime of a river (if it is temporary or permanent), and if it is natural or caused by human activities. Besides, they will closely see the unique characteristics of aquatic macroinvertebrates, which are used to determine the biological quality of a river.
If you wish to help us to celebrate the LIFE anniversary and its trajectory in the conservation and management of our rivers, follow our activities in Twitter!
